It's so hard to start writing the journal all of a sudden. My girls do it at school, and it comes natural to them. Whereas, I have to sit down, collect my thoughts, form sentences, and type them in. Never mind the spelling or sentence structure, how do I learn to concentrate?

kind advice

A note from personal experience: I find that I Comment more than write Entries of my own. And oh, dear - I hope this doesn't disappoint those who read my LJ. (I certainly wouldn't want to lose them!) But I think this is a stage I'm going through, that I want to interact with more people.

Some of things I write, I keep private. I know some LJ Users write very personal, what-I-did-today, diary-type journals. Mine is more like journal-ism, about thoughts and things I come across in the outside world. It's a very complex process, this LJ writing, and I'm only starting to get into it. So far, I enjoy it and appreciate it very much.

Regardless of issues of native language: receptive is so much easier than expressive! Be easy on yourself, Elinka. Read more, maybe?

You're very welcome to read my LJs, this one ([livejournal.com profile] deborahj) and my more Israel-oriented one ([livejournal.com profile] galileah). Oh, and by the way, Bernard Malamud is my favorite American-Jewish writer.

I have the same problem, regardless whether I'm writing in English или по-русски. I think the best use for LJ is to record interesting thoughts, and this is where I run into a problem with being coherent.

I found out you are into Russian Literature. Check out the volume of selected works by the most controversial Russian author Mikhail Armalinsky “Chtob Znali!” (“Let It Be Known!”) .
Moscow, “Ladomir”, 2002, 861 pages
(the volume includes: the novel, short stories, essays and poems)

Here is the English translation of the Preface to this edition:

Hello! Another advice (or maybe the same one): don't push yourself into writing your entries, do it when you really want it. Writing comments is indeed simpler (for me at least). Is it really convenient for you to write in English? Anyway, you are very welcome to this place!

P.S. I like your drawings in drawschool.com a lot.
