Conference House: You're Invited!
Photo Show Opening
Wednesday, July 1, noon to 2 p.m. at the Visitors' Center
The Conference House Park is holding its first photography show at the Visitors’ Center, 298 Satterlee St., at the southern end of Hylan Boulevard on Staten Island. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Wednesday. The show runs from July 1 to August 3.
The photographer, Boris Vinokur, was born in Odessa, Ukraine, in 1954 and worked as a coal miner in the Arctic Circle for 15 years. When he was 35, he moved to Tottenville with his wife and two sons. For the past 17 years, he has worked for New York City Transit.
From the age of 12, Boris’s passion has always been photography. The photographs in his first U.S. show were taken in Conference House Park and at Mount Loretto. The captions tie the images to the map of the Conference House Park on the walls of the Visitors’ Center.
Boris uses filters in some of the images to capture the drama of the sky and the winter light at Conference House Park.
The opening party is Wednesday, July 1, between noon and 2 p.m., at the Visitors’ Center. The exhibit and party are free and open to the public.
